"Rita"
1960 Hammond B-3

This classy lady is the product of a 1960 C-3 with a wrecked cabinet but good internals, and a beautiful B-2 cabinet with less-than-stellar internals. Named for Rita Coolidge—I was on a Derek and the Dominoes jag during her build—this organ is a textbook example of the shimmering, breathy, ethereal sound of an organ from the “golden years.” Paired with any of the Leslies, it’s simply to die for. You won’t want to give it back.

"Lightning"
1957 Hammond B-3

Lightning was built in early 2024 during some particularly heavy weather in Los Angeles, hence its name. It was the marriage of a 1957 C-3 that I had just recommissioned, and an empty BV cabinet that I had just procured. It has the dark, velvety, smoky tone typical of this era, good for jazz and jazz-adjacent genres, and pairs well with Leslies such as Kenmore, Long Beach, and others with modern horn drivers to bring out maximum detail.

Leslie 122
"Long Beach"

This unit came to me as a pristine 251, and has since been converted to a blueprint-spec 122 through a full rebuild of the amplifier. It has a rebuilt crossover network, a Utah 15” woofer and an Atlas PD-5VH horn driver for a “super-stock” sound, full of punch and detail without being shouty or strident. Like all my Leslies, it has solid-state motor switching and rebuilt mechanicals for dead-silent operation.

Configuration: 6H/122
Horn Driver: Atlas PD-5VH
Woofer: Utah Squareback (Ceramic)

"Pasadena"

Pasadena began life as a 46W that I never cared for the sound of. When a 122 came to me with serviceable mechanicals but a destroyed cabinet, the twain did meet with the internals of the shabby 122 getting fully rebuilt and going in to the lovely solid-wood 46W cabinet. It is similar to Long Beach in character, with a beautiful, nuanced sound from its Jensen P15LL woofer and Atlas PD-5VH horn driver that really lets the organ breathe.

"Kenmore"
This is my current favorite of the Leslies. Named for the quiet suburb of Seattle from whence I unearthed it, Kenmore is a short-boy 45 cabinet with a late-run 22H amplifier, converted to proper two-speed operation. Its weak original Jensen horn driver was replaced with an Atlas PD-5VH, and its poorly-reconed Jensen woofer replaced with a custom Weber 15F200 that will knock your socks off. It’s the best of all possible worlds, to borrow from Leibniz; a solid-wood short-boy cabinet, with a strong 22H amp converted to 122 operation, brought up to top-notch performance. What more could you ask for?

Leslie 145

"Portland"
Portland is another favorite, this one a shorty 45 with its original amp and drivers. The 47 amplifier is an early-run tube-rectified unit, giving a pleasantly progressive saturation that’s unlike the later, harder-sounding silicon-rectified 47s and 147s. It’s been converted to two-speed operation, of course, and the original Jensen P15LL woofer and V-21 horn driver sound gorgeous. It looks the part, too, with a near-flawless finish.

"La Habra

One of these is not like the other. Here we have the tolexed cabinet of a 330, the short-boy version of the 1970s solid-state “ProLine” series. But inside, a horse of a different color: a rebuilt Keyboard Products solid-state amplifier putting out 300 biamplified watts, with a JBL 2482 horn driver and K145 woofer. The cabinet has been reinforced to support these massive, industrial-grade drivers. This unit is the one to have when you absolutely, positively, unquestionably need to be the loudest thing on stage.
Use with care.

Speakeasy VTP

This tube-based preamp pedal, custom built in 2009 by the former Speakeasy Vintage Music, allows any ¼” source such as a keyboard, guitar, or properly adapted microphone to be run into a 6W/147-type Leslie speaker. It provides speed switching, gain controls, and tone shaping. It can also function as a simple line preamp to add spanky, sparkly character to all manner of instruments such as Rhodeses and Wurlitzers. It has an EP6 “Alcatel”-style connector to interface with any of my Leslies, and adapter dongles are available to work with standard Amphenol connections.
